Accountant

About the role

PLEION Consulting Ltd, part of the Probus Pleion Group, which provides shared services to about 40 companies incorporated in Mauritius, is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting operations of the company. The role covers bookkeeping, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury support, taxation and documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure daily entry of financial and accounting data into the group's accounting software, check its validity and correct posting, and reconcile bank accounts weekly
• Prepare monthly financial statements in line with IAS and IFRS and file them with regulators on time
• Maintain the fixed asset register and prepare budget and cash flow forecasts, highlighting deviations from budget
• Assist the CFO in managing daily cash flows, safeguard treasury against fraud, maintain petty cash records and verify cheques and bank transfers before they are sent to bank signatories
• Respond to banker queries, initiate payments on internet banking and reply to MRA and other investigative body queries
• Compute and file taxes and VAT through the MNS system, including TDS returns, and assist the Group Accountant, Tax Advisor and external auditors
• Keep account files indexed and classified, back up data regularly, hold internal accounting meetings and attend mandatory training
• Meet service level expectations, such as a 24-hour response time where applicable, and complete timesheets

Required profile

• Fully qualified ACCA member with at least 3 years' experience in a similar position, or partly completed ACCA (Level 3) with at least 5 years of relevant accounting experience
• Strong time management, prioritisation, problem-solving and ethical standards
• Clear communication in English and French, with a client-focused approach

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of IFRS, financial statement preparation, tax filings and treasury management
• Experience with IAS/IFRS financial statements and tax returns
