Assistant Kitchen Chief Steward

About the role

RIU Hotels & Resorts is hiring an Assistant Kitchen Chief Steward for its kitchen department at the Le Morne hotel in Mauritius. The role contributes to the guest experience and operational excellence, and suits someone who takes pride in cleanliness, hygiene, organisation, leadership and luxury hospitality.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas, including floors, walls, cooking equipment, exhaust systems, refrigerators and storage areas, in line with HACCP and local health codes.
• Monitor dishwashing machine temperatures, chemical usage and preventative maintenance schedules.
• Manage the disposal of food waste and refuse in line with environmental and hygienic standards.
• Assist in scheduling, supervising and motivating the Stewarding Team.
• Foster a positive and safe working environment, making sure staff have and use the right personal protective equipment.

Required profile

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a stewarding or back-of-house supervisory role, preferably in a high-volume hotel, resort or restaurant.
• Ability to supervise, motivate and train a diverse team under pressure.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy equipment or supplies.
