Job description

About the role

The Compliance Analyst supports the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and Compliance Officer in the day-to-day running of the company's compliance and AML/CFT framework for itself and its portfolio clients. The role covers monitoring, client due diligence, reviews, reporting and training, and ensures continuity of the compliance function when the MLRO and Compliance Officer are absent.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the MLRO: receive, log and assess internal reports of suspicious activity, carry out preliminary reviews, prepare draft findings, and assist in preparing suspicious transaction reports and other submissions to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
  • Maintain the internal suspicious activity register and related AML/CFT records in line with Mauritian law, keeping them accurate, complete and confidential.
  • Act as Deputy MLRO when appointed and approved, covering the MLRO during absences.
  • Monitor client reviews, risk assessments and outstanding documentation, and monitor transactions and business relationships for unusual activity.
  • Support the Compliance Officer: review controls and operating procedures, document findings and track corrective actions, and help maintain the compliance calendar and regulatory deadlines.
  • Help prepare compliance reports for senior management and the Board, regulatory returns for the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and other authorities, and keep compliance policies, procedures and the business risk assessment up to date.
  • Track regulatory developments, prepare documentation for regulatory inspections and audits, and liaise with banks, regulators and external parties on compliance matters.

Required profile

  • Bachelor's degree in law, finance, business administration or a related field; a professional compliance, AML or risk certification (e.g. ICA, ACAMS) is an advantage.
  • Fresh graduate to 2 years of experience in compliance, AML/CFT or a related field, preferably in a management company, fund administration or financial services environment.
  • Sound working knowledge of the Mauritian AML/CFT framework, including the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act, the related Regulations and the FSC AML/CFT Handbook.
  • Experience of CDD/EDD, client risk assessment and screening tools.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work independently and in a small team.
  • High standards of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
