MLRO and Compliance Officer

About the role

This position combines the functions of Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and Compliance Officer. It covers compliance audits, risk management, internal investigations into money laundering, fraud and other financial crimes, and liaison with regulators and the Financial Intelligence Unit.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct compliance audits and ongoing reviews of controls and operating procedures, and monitor adherence to policies and regulations
• Monitor the risk management process, identify and assess risks and implement mitigation measures
• Carry out internal investigations of compliance issues, including money laundering, fraud and other financial crimes
• Organize risk reporting internally and externally in line with AML and CFT regulations
• Investigate reports of suspected money laundering and make disclosures to authorities where required by Mauritian law
• Train staff on AML/CFT regulations, customer due diligence and ongoing monitoring of business relationships
• Maintain training and procedure manuals, AML records and reporting chains
• Liaise with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) on suspicious activity reporting
• Assist senior management with policy development and internal controls, including SOC 1 requirements
• Work with the corporate team on incorporation documents, board minutes and client administration for AML, transfer agency and corporate duties
• Deal with banks and regulators and perform other related duties

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in law, finance, business administration or a related field; compliance, AML or risk management certifications preferred
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in compliance, risk management or related roles, preferably in financial services
• Deep understanding of AML regulations, compliance requirements and industry best practices
• Commitment to integrity, ethics and corporate governance
