English in Practice Program Facilitator

About the role

The English in Practice Program at the African Leadership College of Higher Education (ALCHE) helps non-native English speakers improve their English so they can communicate more effectively in a globalised world. The English in Practice Facilitator delivers the program and supports students throughout their learning journey. This is a part-time, in-person role based in Mauritius, and only Mauritius-based candidates will be considered. The position will only be activated if the program runs, depending on reaching a minimum enrollment/participation threshold.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate the delivery of each of the 30 online English Immersion Program sessions over each 9-week program duration
• Hold regular Office Hours with participants to mentor them and support their language acquisition
• Attend weekly meetings with the English in Practice Team and the Academic Student Success Lead
• Help build the English in Practice Program resource bank
• Collect, analyse and document data such as student attendance and engagement
• Administer and monitor program deliverables on the LMS (Canvas)
• Maintain the confidentiality of student English proficiency information
• Act as a role model representing ALCHE values and ethical standards
• Take part in brainstorming sessions to improve engagement and impact

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Education or another field, plus a qualification in teaching English as a second/foreign language (e.g. TEFL, ESL)
• Proven high level of English proficiency
• No history of behavioural incidents or breaches of academic integrity
• Experience in English language instruction
• Excellent time management, organisational skills and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
• Strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
• Comfortable navigating uncertainty and ambiguity, with an experimental, iterative approach to student support
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
