Fire Crew Chief

About the role

The Fire Crew Chief leads a fire crew to protect resources and provide fire‑fighting support for structural, aircraft and other hazardous operations. This position ensures compliance with Department of Defense, contract and NFPA standards while maintaining safety of personnel and property.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as lead crew member on site, directing fire‑attack, confinement, salvage, overhaul, ventilation and rescue activities.
• Perform fire suppression, rescue and prevention tasks as directed by senior fire officers.
• Ensure fire‑fighting personnel, vehicles and equipment are operational and ready.
• Assess and document initial emergency scene conditions and report to supervisors.
• Oversee care and maintenance of fire‑fighting equipment, fire station and surrounding grounds.
• Resolve minor administrative and personnel issues; refer major matters to senior officers.
• Travel domestically and internationally as required, often to remote or uncomfortable locations.

Required profile

• Minimum six years of experience in fire services.
• Associate’s degree in fire science management, emergency management, public administration or related field (preferred).
• Certifications: Fire Fighter I & II, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, HazMat Operations, Airport Fire Fighter (if applicable), Hazardous Materials Incident Commander.
• First Responder and CPR qualification.
• Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
• Physical fitness to work long hours in adverse weather and hazardous conditions.
