Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Grade I)

About the role

Velogic is looking for a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to diagnose, repair and maintain trucks and trailers, carry out routine servicing and safety inspections, and keep vehicles in good working condition.

Key responsibilities

• Use equipment and manual testing to identify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults in trucks and trailers.
• Dismantle, repair or completely overhaul heavy diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches and drive shafts.
• Inspect and repair trailer landing gear, kingpins, suspension systems, leaf springs, air lines and ABS wheel-end components.
• Overhaul air-brake chambers, slack adjusters, drums and steering gearboxes to ensure road-safety compliance.
• Carry out scheduled safety inspections, oil and filter changes, fluid checks and chassis greasing.
• Maintain accurate service records, log parts used and sign off on repair completion reports.

Required profile

• NTC Level 3 or 4 in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or Automotive Mechanics from MITD.
• Basic secondary education.
• Valid private car driving licence.
• 5+ years of practical workshop experience in a similar position.
• Team player, proactive and resourceful, able to prioritise and work independently, detailed-oriented and able to meet monthly deadlines.
