Senior Compliance Officer

About the role

This bank is looking for a Senior Compliance Officer to report the results of its compliance and ethics efforts to the Compliance Manager within the Regulatory Unit. The role covers regulatory compliance and advisory, compliance monitoring and risk management, and regulatory relations and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Stay up to date with regulatory developments, legislative changes, directives and industry best practices in banking, and ensure the bank's policies, products and operations meet Bank of Mauritius requirements and applicable laws.
• Support compliance frameworks, standards and governance, and work with the AML/CFT Monitoring team on changes in AML/CFT rules.
• Advise business units and stakeholders on regulatory and compliance matters.
• Run compliance monitoring, thematic reviews, testing programmes and assessments, and review banking activities such as dormant and abandoned accounts, preparing reports with findings and recommendations.
• Identify, assess, monitor and escalate compliance risks and control weaknesses, and oversee corrective actions and remediation plans.
• Support the annual Compliance Plan and Compliance Monitoring Programme.
• Prepare compliance reports, regulatory updates, risk assessments and Board papers; draft, review and coordinate regulatory correspondence with the Bank of Mauritius and other authorities.
• Track regulatory correspondence and action plans, coordinate examinations, inspections, audits and information requests, and build relationships with regulators.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in law, finance, economics, accounting or a related field acceptable to the Bank.
• ACAMS or ICA certification preferred; a master's degree or professional qualifications highly desirable.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the banking sector, including at least 3 years in an AML/CFT compliance role.
