Assistant Surveyor

About the role

Inchcape Shipping Services is looking for an Assistant Surveyor to join its Port Louis office. The role involves conducting marine, cargo and bunker surveys, handling client communications and delivering accurate reports while supporting the company’s broader shipping services.

Key responsibilities

• Perform bunker‑related jobs such as Bunker Quantity Survey (BQS), On/Off Hire surveys and resolve client concerns.
• Plan operational activities and coordinate with IG P&I clubs and major Protection & Indemnity clubs.
• Arrange and attend independent cargo and marine survey assignments within the region.
• Complete marine, P&I, Hull & Machinery and cargo surveys, issuing preliminary and final reports within KPI timeframes.
• Support local and international market services, including ship agency, chandelling and liner services.
• Assist the Line Manager to ensure all work is performed independently and impartially.
• Promote professional excellence, teamwork and prioritisation while complying with HSSE policies.
• Assess HSSE risks, implement controls, report accidents/near‑misses and ensure compliance with the ISS HSSE Management System.

Required profile

• Knowledge of marine, cargo and bunker surveying procedures.
• Strong communication skills for professional interaction with clients and third parties.
• Ability to work independently, maintain impartiality and meet strict reporting deadlines.
