Carpenter - Hotel Maintenance

About the role

Constance Le Chaland, a luxury resort on the south-eastern coast of Mauritius, is looking for a full-time Carpenter. The role covers carpentry, furniture repair and fabrication, painting and finishing, and general maintenance across the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas and the back of house.

Key responsibilities

• Construct, repair and maintain wooden and timber work in the hotel, including furniture, doors, window frames, curtain rods, closet parts and partitions.
• Repair carpets and wallpapers, do minor masonry such as tiling, and varnish furniture.
• Control carpentry material to avoid wastage and account for all carpentry supplies.
• Maintain painting and varnishing work on walls, ceilings, doors, wooden and steel panels and sign painting.
• Install and repair wallpaper, and perform minor plaster and rendering repairs before painting.
• Carry out painting on furniture, equipment and interior and exterior walls, blending paints and applying them according to manufacturer specifications.
• Repair existing furniture, doors and windows, fix door locks, polish furniture and fabricate new furniture.
• Assist in decoration work for functions and minor projects such as varnishing guest room service.
• Work on shifts as requested, follow safety rules, keep the workshop clean and tidy, and return borrowed tools.

Required profile

• Middle or secondary education; additional training or certificates in the field are a plus.
• At least 1 year of experience in the hotel industry; proven experience in top luxury resorts is a plus.
• Physically fit with good hand-eye coordination, able to work with little supervision while following health and safety standards.
• Fluent in English or another language, written and spoken.
• Good understanding of basic math and willingness to accept additional or temporary assignments.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with carpentry materials and excellent knowledge of carpentry techniques and installation methods.
• Proficiency with electrical and manual equipment and measuring tools.
• Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
