Butcher – Fresh Meat Retail

About the role

The Butchers prepare and merchandise a range of fresh meat products, ensuring quality cuts and excellent customer service. You will manage stock levels, help with special orders and advise customers on product selection and preparation. The role suits experienced professionals who enjoy hands-on meat processing and working with customers in a retail setting. It is based in Trianon, Quatre-Bornes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and coordinate meat preparation (cutting, trimming, deboning, grinding, portioning) and display products attractively with clear signage and accurate pricing.
• Keep stock available by placing orders according to demand and season, rotating products (FIFO) and checking expiry dates to minimise wastage.
• Inspect meat before receiving, remove damaged or spoiled items and maintain food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP compliance and regular temperature checks.
• Supervise and train staff, schedule shifts and foster good customer service.
• Assist customers with inquiries, special orders and product recommendations, and handle complaints.
• Analyse sales trends, generate reports on sales, stock and waste, and suggest pricing changes, promotions or new products.

Required profile

• At least 4 years of work experience in retail.
• Matriculation or diploma.
• A recent SAPS clearance and a valid medical certificate.
