Chief Risk and Compliance Officer – Mauritius

About the role

The Chief Risk and Compliance Officer (CRCO) for Mauritius will be the senior executive responsible for all risk and compliance matters across the country. Reporting functionally to the Head of Risk & Compliance – International Markets Asia and locally to the market CEO, the CRCO will guide the business through a complex regulatory environment while supporting growth objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the identification, assessment, management, monitoring and mitigation of all risk types, including credit, data, financial crime, regulatory, technology, cybersecurity, treasury and operational risk.
• Develop and communicate the Mauritius risk and compliance strategy, policies and risk appetite in line with Group guardrails.
• Provide counsel, challenge and advice to market leadership on key business decisions.
• Maintain effective relationships with Mauritius regulators and ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations.
• Oversee the application of HSBC’s Risk Management Framework, including implementation of strategic projects and systems.
• Foster a strong risk and compliance culture, promoting “tone from the top” and embedding controls throughout the organization.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in risk and compliance within the banking or financial services sector.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive risk‑aware decision making.
• Deep understanding of regulatory requirements and risk appetite setting.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of building high‑performing risk and compliance teams.
