Tax Manager - Mauritius
Telecel Group
Job description
About the role
The Tax Manager owns the Group's Mauritius tax function end to end, covering structuring, optimisation, compliance and authority relationship management. As the single internal point of contact on tax for Telecel Group and its Mauritius-registered subsidiaries, the role combines hands-on filing and compliance with strategic structuring across a multi-jurisdictional African footprint (DRC, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea-Bissau and others).
Key responsibilities
- Maintain the Mauritius holding and management-company structure, flag legislative changes and manage the partial exemption regime, foreign tax credits and substance (CIGA) requirements.
- Own the transfer-pricing framework for the GHQ / management-fee model, including arm's-length support, benchmarking and documentation.
- Structure intercompany financing and advise on the tax implications of financing and M&A, and build scenarios on possible acquisition structures.
- Own the compliance calendar for the Group entities (corporate income tax, APS instalments, VAT, TDS, CSG/PAYE) and prepare and file returns with the MRA on time, maintaining tax provisions and reconciling the tax line.
- Manage TRC applications and renewals to secure treaty access for African operations.
- Act as the single point of contact with the MRA, lead responses to assessments and objections, and coordinate external counsel where needed.
- Manage the withholding tax DTA network and advise finance teams on the tax consequences of local transactions.
- Maintain a tax risk register, quantify exposures and brief the CFO, and support statutory audits and due diligence on tax.
Required profile
- 8-10+ years in tax, with a substantial portion in Mauritius international / GBC tax, ideally trained in a Big 4 Mauritius practice or equivalent.
- Demonstrable track record of running MRA filings, assessments and objections for GBC / holding structures.
- A recognised professional or tax qualification (ACCA, ACA, CTA or ADIT); MIPA registration is required.
- Comfortable owning the function alone, using external counsel where applicable, and able to advise at CFO level.
Required skills
- Deep knowledge of the MRA, the partial exemption regime, substance rules, VAT, TDS and the Mauritius DTA network.
- Transfer-pricing and cross-border structuring experience; multi-jurisdictional (ideally African / frontier-market) and telecoms or holding-company exposure is an advantage.
